China Daily, March 9 – according to a report by Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post on March 7, “metaverse” unexpectedly became a topic at this year’s two sessions. Representatives and members of the two sessions proposed that the government should give play to the core role in the field of “metaverse”, develop the macro-control system and prevent social and financial risks.
“Metaverse” is “metaverse” in English. According to polygon, the American game media, this word was created by American science fiction writer Niels Stevenson in his 1992 novel snow crash. It is used to describe a virtual world widely used in his imagined future, an anti Utopia in the 21st century. According to Barron’s report, Goldman Sachs estimates that once “metaverse” starts to subvert existing technologies, its value in the world may reach $8 billion (about 50.5 billion yuan), but Morgan Stanley said in February that the Chinese market alone has this value.
At the two sessions, representatives and members delivered their own proposals on “metaverse” and shared their views on how China should accept and regulate “metaverse”. According to the article of the South China Morning Post, this marks people’s increasing interest in the concept of shared and immersive virtual space. Some people believe that this will be the next evolution trend of the Internet. The proposal of the delegates also reflects the general interest of the whole science and technology industry. Many enterprises scramble to use this concept. In the first two months of this year, the number of relevant trademark applications doubled to 16000.
Liu Wei, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, said that the central government should lead the development and application of “metaverse”. He said in a comment in the media that he proposed to build a “metaverse China” digital economy led by the government, guide the close connection between the virtual world and the real world, and form a new social relationship platform with virtual reality integration, immersion and interaction and complete normative system. ” Liu Wei added that “metaverse” can also guide the online industrialization of tourism, commerce, culture and other industries damaged by the offline epidemic, and promote the standardized application of new technologies such as legal digital currency and digital assets on this basis.
We will set up a National People’s Congress, a key research and development engine of “metaverse” and “metaverse”, a National People’s Congress, a key technology of image generation and display, and strengthen the research and development of “metaverse” and “metaverse” key technologies. In addition, accelerate the research and formulation of “metaverse” industrial development plan at the national level, establish industrial standards, norms and systems, clarify industrial boundaries, red lines and restricted areas, and add that the system construction should be improved and the forward-looking Legislative Research of “metaverse” should be strengthened. Liang Wei, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese people’s Political Consultative Conference, also responded to this. He believed that the principle of “one network unified management, cloud network coordination and computing network integration” should be adhered to to to prevent systemic risks and ensure the healthy development of “metaverse”.
